The Jacksonport Swamp Beach and Social Club was formed in the late 1980’s by a group of summer and year-round residents of the area informally known as the Jacksonport Swamp.  Many of the members were once guests at Olson Cottages.

For many years, the group would march in the annual Memorial Day weekend Maifest Parade in Jacksonport, sometimes winning first prize.  Each year the group would create a new marching routine and a new edition of an annual sweatshirt.  More recently, the group has taken a hiatus from marching, but are still known to congregate at one cottage or another for a celebration of life on the beach.

Although we’ve lost a few members over the years; Vincy Slepika, Ken Lindsey, Gid and Mary Haynes, Kathy Haynes and Gene Stoerzback, a whole new generation of Swampers is coming along, so don’t be surprised to see the group back in action someday in a future Maifest Parade.

GENE STOERZBACH

It’s very rare to find a person with the level of love and friendship that Gene showed both to her family and to her large circle of friends.  Her death in early 2006 has left an empty spot in all of our hearts, but we move forward with the wonderful memories of knowing such a truly loving, outstanding woman.  We share this loss with her family—her loving husband Russ and her two daughters,

Sue and Nancy and their families.
