The Jacksonport Swamp Beach and Social Club was formed in the late 1980’s by a group of summer and year-round residents of the area informally known as the Jacksonport Swamp.  Many of the members were once guests at Olson Cottages.

For many years, the group would march in the annual Memorial Day weekend Maifest Parade in Jacksonport, sometimes winning first prize.  Each year the group would create a new marching routine and a new edition of an annual sweatshirt.  More recently, the group has taken a hiatus from marching, but are still known to congregate at one cottage or another for a celebration of life on the beach.

Although we’ve lost a few members over the years; Vincy Slepika, Ken Lindsey, Gid and Mary Haynes, Kathy Haynes,  and Russ & Gene Stoerzback, a whole new generation of Swampers is coming along, so don’t be surprised to see the group back in action someday in a future Maifest Parade.

What can be said about two people who were so loving and giving and so generous with their themselves? 

Russ and Gene Stoerzbach were two of a kind and set the standard for beach hospitality.  Gene passed in 2006 and Russ followed in 2007, but their memory lives on in all the people they touched.

We miss them both,

but our lives are richer for knowing them!
